Preservation of historical buildings through humidity control in the masonry by using textile drainage systems.

The aim of the feasibility study is to lay the foundations for a research and innovation project in which a sustainable and resource-efficient solution for the moisture control of masonry structures will be developed. Previous solutions are typically characterised by high energy consumption or use of environmentally harmful chemical additives. Initially, a non-woven textile concept will be designed and its suitability demonstrated by relevant testing.

Texulting will fabricate a textile-based drainage sample structure, for demonstration purposes as objective of the project and perform a production test and a stress test on the fabricated sample. Thereafter, an adaptation proposals, a textile recycling concept, technological roadmap from a textile production perspective and evaluation of the developed product will be prepared. The main emphasis is hereby on the sustainability of the textile which ultimately is envisioned by the use of bio-based or biodegradable textile fibres. It is necessary to consider not only the relevant techniques, but also aspects related to testing, certification and recyclability.
